High Temperature Thermometers

High temperature thermometers are specialized thermocouple-based assemblies engineered for extreme thermal environments encountered in metallurgical, glass, flue gas, and ceramics applications. In these services, temperatures can reach levels that exceed conventional industrial sensor designs and demand careful material and mechanical selection.

A typical design uses protection tubes and thermowells made from ceramics or high-performance alloys to withstand thermal shock, mechanical stress, and corrosive or reactive atmospheres. Thermocouple selection may range from base-metal types to noble-metal constructions (including platinum/rhodium variants) to maintain stability and survivability at very high temperatures.

The protection tube is central to reliability: it shields the sensing element from direct process forces and aggressive chemistry while moderating temperature shock, which helps extend sensor life. Modular constructions also support configuration to match specific furnace geometry, immersion requirements, and maintenance strategies.

Integration options commonly include either an integrated temperature transmitter or a remotely mounted transmitter, depending on ambient conditions and signal-handling philosophy. Process connections (threaded, compression, flanged) are selected to match mechanical requirements and maintenance access in demanding installations.

Typical applications include heat treatment furnaces, kilns, smelters, and high-temperature exhaust streams where measurement integrity and survivability determine operational control quality. Selection is guided by maximum temperature, atmosphere/chemistry, required thermocouple type, protection tube material, mounting arrangement, and the expected maintenance interval strategy.
