Analyzers for Hardness, Iron, Aluminum, Chromate & Sodium

Endress+Hauser’s portfolio for dissolved metals and hardness combines wet‑chemical colorimetric analyzers (Liquiline System CA80) for hardness, iron, aluminum, and chromate with a potentiometric ion‑selective analyzer (CA76NA) for sodium. Built on the Liquiline platform, the CA80 instruments automate sampling, reaction, evaluation, and validation to deliver laboratory‑comparable results online. They also accept up to four Memosens digital sensors (e.g., pH, conductivity, ORP) to create a compact measuring station around a single controller, simplifying wiring and visualization without adding separate transmitters.

Hardness is addressed by the Liquiline System CA80HA, which applies the phthalein purple method for direct comparability with lab practice. It targets softening control, hardness classification in drinking water, and assurance of process‑water quality. An optional dilution module pushes the range into very hard waters (up to ~1,600 mg/L as CaCO₃), while automatic calibration/cleaning, low reagent consumption, and remote diagnostics lower lifecycle cost and service effort. For iron, CA80FE uses a standardized ferrozine colorimetric method to monitor residual iron after precipitation/flocculation/filtration and to verify raw/process water quality, again with automated calibration/cleaning and Liquiline diagnostics for dependable compliance monitoring.

Aluminum and chromate measurement follow proven regulatory methods. CA80AL employs the pyrocatechol violet method (DIN ISO 10566) to optimize coagulant dosing and confirm residual Al limits in potable water and wastewater; communication options include Modbus, PROFIBUS, and EtherNet/IP, and an integrated web server supports remote access. CA80CR applies the diphenylcarbazide colorimetric method for Cr(VI), with measuring ranges and optional dilution that suit industrial effluent treatment. Typical uses include optimizing chromate removal and effluent compliance in electroplating and tanning operations; automatic calibration/cleaning and Memosens plug‑and‑play features mirror the rest of the CA80 family.

For sodium, a sentinel parameter in high‑purity water, CA76NA provides ISE (potentiometric) measurement down to single‑ppb levels. Designed for steam and water analysis systems (SWAS), it delivers early indication of condenser leaks, ion‑exchange breakthrough, or contamination in boiler feedwater and condensate. A separate reference pH electrode enables precise pH adjustment/temperature compensation; a built‑in multi‑sequencer can scan up to six sample channels, and low DIPA consumption keeps operating costs in check. The result is fast, sensitive online protection for turbines, boilers, and critical heat‑transfer equipment.

Colorimetric analyzers provide regulation‑compliant results using standardized reactions, making them well suited to statutory reporting and process optimization in drinking water, municipal/industrial wastewater, and process water. The shared Liquiline platform adds automatic calibration/cleaning, remote access/diagnostics, and flexible fieldbus integration; optional dilution modules extend measuring ranges to cover upset conditions without hardware change. Typical deployments include: softening skids and distribution monitoring (hardness); coagulation/filtration control and residual verification (iron, aluminum); industrial effluent treatment (chromate); and power‑plant SWAS panels, condensate polishing, and demin systems (sodium). Together these analyzers turn critical lab parameters into continuous, auditable process data that reduce chemical consumption, prevent excursions, and protect assets.
