Device Configuration Tablets
Device configuration tablets for commissioning and maintenance of field devices.
Device Configuration Tablets
Device configuration tablets are ruggedized, software-enabled mobile workstations used to commission, diagnose, and maintain digitally communicating field devices across multiple protocols. They consolidate configuration workflows—parameterization, verification reporting, and diagnostics—into a portable platform that can be carried to the measuring point or used from a cabinet connection.
These tablets typically support both point-to-point access and networked access. Direct connection can be established through suitable USB or Bluetooth interfaces, while a gateway-based connection can provide “point-to-bus” entry to reach multiple devices through a single access point. Wireless access is also supported when an appropriate Wi‑Fi infrastructure or hotspot is available.
A major advantage is broad device coverage through a large, preloaded driver library (DTMs), including both Endress+Hauser and third-party devices. This reduces the friction of mixed installed bases and enables consistent diagnostics—such as NAMUR NE 107-based status presentation—without juggling multiple handhelds and vendor tools.
Digital workflow improvements extend beyond configuration. Connection to cloud services can centralize device configuration reports and make instrument data more accessible for analytics and documentation, supporting audit readiness and lifecycle traceability without relying on manual file handling.
Common use cases include rapid commissioning of new loops, turnarounds with large volumes of parameter checks, and troubleshooting of intermittent device issues where quick access to diagnostic context matters. Practical selection factors include hazardous-area suitability (where required), protocol coverage (HART, PROFIBUS, FOUNDATION Fieldbus, Modbus, and service interfaces), and automated driver update mechanisms to keep the tool current.
