Electromagnetic Flowmeters
Proven flow measuring technology for all electrically conductive liquids in every industry.
Electromagnetic Flowmeters
Endress+Hauser’s Electromagnetic Flowmeters (Proline Promag family) measure volumetric flow of conductive liquids using Faraday’s law. With a full‑bore design and no moving parts, they introduce no permanent pressure loss, are largely insensitive to viscosity, density, temperature, or pressure, and require little maintenance over decades of service. Several Promag variants can also expose secondary variables (e.g., conductivity) and support 0 × DN inlet run designs to ease installation constraints, especially in retrofit work. Typical accuracy classes and diagnostics are geared for both process control and fiscal/regulated duties.
The portfolio maps neatly to industries. Promag W is the specialist for water and wastewater, from treatment plants to distribution mains, available with compact (W 300/400), remote (W 500), and battery‑powered (W 800) transmitters for off‑grid networks, direct‑burial, or even permanent underwater installations. Options range from hard‑rubber and polyurethane liners for raw water/slurries to PTFE for aggressive media; electrode materials include 316L, Alloy C‑22, and Tantalum. Many W models carry drinking‑water and custody‑transfer approvals and maintain accuracy with 0 × DN inlet runs, important for cramped chambers and meter vaults.
For hygienic processing, Promag H adds stainless‑steel housings with 3‑A/EHEDG design, PFA liners, and ingress protection up to IP69 to withstand wash‑down while remaining CIP/SIP cleanable; compact H 100 and flexible H 300/H 500 variants cover skids through large lines. In chemical/process plants, Promag P combines PTFE/PFA liners and high‑temperature options with broad corrosion resistance, available as compact four‑wire (P 100/300/500) or genuine two‑wire loop‑powered (P 200) instruments for brownfield drops. These families retain magmeter advantages for acids/alkalis, brine, solvents, and abrasive slurries while offering the approvals and materials that engineering standards demand.
Across sensors, Proline transmitters scale capability and footprint: Proline 10/100 for essentials and skids, 200 for loop‑powered two‑wire, 300/400 for compact advanced, and 500 for remote mounting in hot, vibrating, or flooded locations. Configuration and diagnostics are consistent: Heartbeat Technology delivers continuous self‑monitoring and traceable verification; an integrated web server with WLAN allows secure browser access without opening housings; and communications span HART, PROFIBUS, FOUNDATION Fieldbus, Modbus RS‑485, EtherNet/IP, and PROFINET for seamless DCS/PLC integration. These features reduce commissioning time, extend recalibration intervals, and make condition‑based maintenance practical.
Applications range from municipal drinking water, reclaimed water, and wastewater billing to plant utilities (cooling, boiler makeup), batching/filling skids, concentration control via conductivity, and custody transfer of potable water. In tough environments, mine water, slurries, mixed liquor, Promag W’s liner/electrode options, and 0 × DN capability sustain accuracy without adding headloss; in remote districts, Promag W 800 brings battery autonomy and secure data transmission. In food & beverage and life sciences, Promag H covers syrup, dairy, WFI, and CIP loops; in chemical units, Promag P handles corrosives and elevated temperatures while preserving safety and uptime. In all cases, you get stable measurements, robust materials, and lifecycle tools aligned with modern asset strategies.
