Disinfection and Chlorine Sensors and Transmitters
Endress+Hauser’s disinfection and chlorine portfolio couples amperometric Memosens sensors for free and total chlorine, chlorine dioxide, and free bromine with robust Liquiline and Liquisys transmitters and purpose‑built flow assemblies. The result is lab‑comparable, regulation‑aligned measurement brought online for reliable dose control and proof of compliance. Memosens 2.0 delivers digital, inductive coupling for moisture‑immune operation, on‑board calibration/data storage, and a solid basis for predictive maintenance. Typical targets span drinking water, process and reuse water, pool water, and seawater.
Free chlorine is covered by the Memosens CCS51D/CCS51E sensor family, specified for drinking water, utilities, and pool/process water with measuring ranges that cover trace to high levels. Because the HOCl/OCl⁻ equilibrium is pH‑dependent, Endress+Hauser provides integrated pH compensation via transmitters and assemblies designed to host both a chlorine and a pH/ORP sensor. Pair CCS51x with a pH sensor (e.g., CPS31E) in the Flowfit CCA250 assembly for stable bypass measurements; Liquisys CCM223/253 include built‑in pH compensation for free chlorine.
For chlorine dioxide and total chlorine, the Memosens CCS50E (ClO₂) and CCS53E (total chlorine) extend coverage to disinfection schemes beyond hypochlorite. CCS50E emphasizes fast, stable readings with low maintenance to optimize ClO₂ dosing or verify absence downstream of dosing/skids (e.g., beverage plants, RO). CCS53E continuously measures total chlorine, including long periods at true zero, making it a strong choice for residual checks in discharge, reuse, and process waters where “no chlorine present” must be proven. Both sensors leverage Memosens 2.0 for data integrity and simple handling.
Where bromination is preferred, especially in saline waters, Endress+Hauser offers the Memosens CCS55E for free bromine. Designed for desalination, cooling/process water, pools, and aquaculture, it provides high‑precision, fast response measurement and pairs with pH (when required) for compensation in seawater applications. Endress+Hauser also supplies pre‑engineered free‑bromine panels to accelerate deployment: prewired/piped assemblies with Memosens sensors and consistent sample hydraulics for stable readings and quick commissioning.
The transmitter layer simplifies control and integration. Liquiline CM442/CM444/CM448 multichannel platforms accept up to 2/4/8 Memosens sensors (chlorine, ClO₂, total Cl, bromine, pH/ORP and more), auto‑recognize sensors, and offer PID/controller and math modules to drive dosing systems directly. Heartbeat Technology supports diagnostics and verification to balance availability and service effort. For dedicated chlorine loops, Liquisys CCM223/253 provide a compact alternative with integrated pH compensation, modular I/O and fieldbus options, plus continuous plausibility and sensor checks.
Assemblies complete the measuring point. Flowfit CCA250 was purpose‑built for disinfection control: it houses the disinfection sensor and pH/ORP probes in one bypass body, adds flow adjustment/monitoring and a flow alarm to protect measurement readiness. For ClO₂ or apps that don’t need pH compensation, Flowfit CCA151 offers a simple, low‑flow holder. The newer Flowfit CYA27 is a modular multiparameter assembly (up to ~6 parameters) enabling flexible sensor positioning, integrated flow monitoring, and even cleaning/dosing modules, ideal for modern monitoring panels with minimal water loss.
In waterworks and wastewater, disinfection sensors underpin residual monitoring, distribution surveillance, and reuse compliance across chlorine, ClO₂, and bromine (and ozone where used). In industry, they protect RO pretreatment, cooling towers, and CIP/process‑water quality while avoiding overdosing. Endress+Hauser’s case applications show CCS51D monitoring at plant outlets, reservoirs, and networks to ensure residuals persist without excess dose. With Memosens digitalization, Liquiline/Liquisys control, and Flowfit hydraulics, the portfolio delivers traceable, auditable disinfection data that are easy to integrate, operate, and maintain.
